Design

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 refines the iconic clamshell foldable design with subtle but meaningful upgrades that elevate both aesthetics and functionality.

At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 maintains the familiar clamshell design language seen in the Z Flip6, but subtle refinements make it a more polished and modern foldable.

It retains a sleek, minimalist profile made of a durable combination of glass and Samsung’s reinforced Armor Aluminum frame. However, this generation is slimmer and more compact than before, showcasing Samsung’s dedication to improving form without compromising function.

When unfolded, the Z Flip7 measures just 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.5 mm, and when folded, it shrinks down to a pocketable 85.4 x 71.9 x 13.7 mm, a notable reduction from the previous model’s 14.9 mm folded thickness. Weighing only 187 grams, it remains light in hand while still feeling sturdy and well-built.

A standout enhancement is the reworked FlexHinge, now thinner and sturdier. Samsung calls it the Armor Flex Hinge, and despite being nearly 30% slimmer, it’s been engineered for even greater durability and smoother operation.

The hinge mechanism delivers a satisfying snap when opening and closing, and Samsung claims it can comfortably endure up to 200,000 folds, reassuring users of its long-term reliability. It’s a small but significant upgrade that makes each fold feel more natural and premium.

The most dramatic visual shift is the expanded 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen, which Samsung officially calls the FlexWindow. Unlike the 3.4-inch panel on the Z Flip6, the new display stretches across the entire top half of the device, flowing around the camera island with slim bezels and a striking edge-to-edge design.

This larger outer display not only looks more modern but is also more functional, allowing users to interact with widgets, messages, media playback, and more—without unfolding the Android phone. Just below the FlexWindow are the two rear camera lenses and LED flash, neatly embedded with a minimalistic, stylish finish.

When opened, the Flip7 reveals a slightly larger 6.9-inch Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X internal display, up from 6.7 inches in the previous model. The screen supports a vibrant and fluid viewing experience with Samsung’s typical visual excellence.

The crease along the fold is still present but has been further minimized, and it doesn’t distract from the viewing experience, even during full-screen video playback or multitasking. It feels durable under touch, thanks to Samsung’s continued innovation with ultra-thin glass and display layering.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, offering enhanced resistance to drops and scratches. It also carries an IP48 rating, providing water resistance up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for 30 minutes. However, it’s still vulnerable to fine particles like sand, so users should be cautious in dusty environments.

Samsung has also made ergonomic improvements. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner and volume rocker are conveniently placed on the right side for easy access, particularly when the 5G phone is folded. The finish on the device is matte, resisting fingerprints and providing a smooth, non-slip grip.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 is available in four stylish colour options: ‘Blue Shadow’, ‘Jetblack’, ‘Coralred’, and ‘Mint’, the last of which is exclusive to Samsung’s official store. These colourways enhance the fashion-forward appeal of the device, positioning it as much a lifestyle accessory as a high-end smartphone.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7’s display setup reflects both cutting-edge innovation and a keen focus on usability. The main inner display is a stunning 6.9-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a 1080 x 2520 resolution and a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio, offering crisp visuals at around 397 pixels per inch.

It boasts a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, providing ultra-smooth scrolling and responsive interactions, whether you’re browsing, gaming, or watching videos. It also enhances the gaming experience, providing fluid motion and reducing input lag. However, the refresh rate is limited to either a fixed 60Hz ‘Standard’, or ‘Adaptive’, which means users can only alternate between 120Hz and 60Hz, in either of the modes.

The panel also supports HDR10+ for vibrant color accuracy and contrast, and with a peak brightness of up to 2600 nits, it’s easily viewable even under harsh sunlight—an essential feature for outdoor usability.

The display-to-body ratio sits at an impressive ~88.7%, giving you a near edge-to-edge experience with minimal bezels. The screen remains foldable, of course, and is protected with Samsung’s latest innovations in ultra-thin glass, though the Mohs level 1 rating does highlight its vulnerability to scratches, common in all current foldables. Caution with sharp objects is still recommended.

On the outside, the cover display (FlexWindow) has seen a significant upgrade. Now 4.1 inches in size and with a 948 x 1048 pixel resolution, the Super AMOLED panel offers rich colors, deep blacks, and the same 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth feel.

This cover screen isn’t just for checking notifications anymore; it’s large enough to manage messages, use widgets, take selfies, and control media playback, all without unfolding the device. It’s also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, improving its drop resistance and durability in daily use.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 features a solid dual-camera system that caters well to everyday photography needs. Its main sensor is a 50MP wide lens with an f/1.8 aperture, a 23mm focal length, and a 1/1.57″ sensor size. This camera supports dual pixel PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS), delivering sharp, detailed shots with good low-light performance and stable video capture.

The secondary camera is a 12MP ultrawide lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a wide 123˚ field of view. While there’s a noticeable difference in detail and color accuracy compared to the main sensor, this ultrawide lens remains versatile and useful across a variety of shooting scenarios.

One limitation is the absence of a telephoto lens, so zoom relies solely on digital cropping. Zoom beyond 2x quickly degrades in quality, and though Samsung allows up to 10x digital zoom, images become noticeably softer and colors less accurate at higher levels.

Additional features include LED flash, HDR, and panorama modes. Video recording capabilities are robust, with support for 4K at 30 and 60fps, 1080p slow-motion at up to 240fps, and even super slow-motion at 720p 960fps, all with HDR10+ support.

The camera system includes advanced features such as Super Steady mode for video stabilization, Night Mode for low-light photography, and Director’s View, which allows users to switch between different camera lenses while recording video. These features provide versatility and creativity for content creators and photography enthusiasts.

On the front, the Z Flip7 offers a 10MP selfie camera (f/2.2, 23mm) that produces clear, vibrant selfies with HDR support and the ability to shoot video in 4K at 30 or 60fps, making it a capable option for high-quality self-portraits and video calls.

Hardware and Software

Powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chipset, a cutting-edge SoC. Built on an advanced 3nm process, this 10-core CPU architecture features a powerful 3.3GHz Cortex-X5 prime core, supported by newer Cortex-A725 and Cortex-A520 cores arranged for a strong balance of performance and efficiency.

Backed by the Xclipse 950 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA tech, the Flip7 handles graphics-heavy tasks and gaming surprisingly well for such a compact foldable.

Performance is further enhanced by 12GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, offering up to 512GB, which ensures high-speed data transfer and fluid app performance. The Flip7 might lack a microSD slot, but the internal storage options should suffice for most users.

On the software front, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is among the first to debut with Android 16 out of the box, running Samsung’s new One UI 8 skin. Samsung has promised 7 years of major OS upgrades and security patches, setting a new industry benchmark in software longevity. The UI remains fast and fluid, with refined animations and multitasking features optimized for foldables.

While the cover screen (now larger at 4.1 inches) feels more immersive and modern, its functionality is still based around widgets and quick interactions. You can check the weather, notifications, control media, or summon the Gemini AI assistant, but full app access remains limited, which is a missed opportunity given the upgraded real estate.

Samsung has impressive Galaxy AI features, including live voice translations, enabling you to communicate seamlessly in other languages. It also included smart features like Circle to Search and Samsung DeX, offering a desktop-like experience when connected to a monitor. These features highlight Samsung’s vision of productivity, even in its most compact foldable device.

Powering all this is a larger 4300mAh battery, which comfortably lasts a full day under typical use. While the 25W wired charging is serviceable rather than groundbreaking (50% in 30 minutes), the inclusion of 15W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging adds welcome flexibility.
